Mike Skaar
Michael Skaar founded Skaar Furniture Associates Inc. in 1984, with an initial focus on the emerging field of ergonomics, and the impact it could have on the workplace. More than two decades ago, he believed a properly designed and engineered environment could have a profound impact on productivity, job satisfaction, employee retention, and injury reduction. Decades later, he still does. Because of his pioneering work in this field, Mike was appointed in 1991 to the VDT Advisory Committee for the City and County of San Francisco, representing the contract furniture industry and the greater San Francisco Business Community on this groundbreaking board.
Over the past two decades, Mike and the team at Skaar Furniture have teamed repeatedly with every major Architecture and Interior Design firm in Northern California, Nevada, and Hawaii on projects covering the broadest possible range.
In 1997, Skaar Furniture’s offices and showrooms in the Contract Design Center were selected for publication by Interior Design Magazine. For most of the past twenty years Mike has been serving in a variety of capacities for the International Interior Design Association, from Board Advisor to Programs to his current role on the Executive Board as Vice President of City Centers. In 2005 the Chapter took top National awards, and in 2006 Mike was asked to address all of the Chapter Presidents from around the United States and the International Board in Chicago on some programs he initiated in this region.
Mike also serves on the Executive Board of Philanthropy by Design, the Curriculum Advisory Board for the Art Institute of California, and served on the Board of the Silicon Valley International Facilities Management Association. His prior experience includes sales, marketing, and management positions with European, Asian, and US firms. He earned a Bachelors and Masters in Business Administration from Arizona State University and has completed post-graduate work on International Business at UCLA. Mike is a dedicated snowboarder, bicyclist, swimmer, and outdoor enthusiast.

Donald Choy
If you've called or visited the Skaar Furniture showroom, you've probably been greeted by our General Manager, Donald Choy. Don has been at the helm of Skaar Furniture for several years, overseeing showroom operations, project management, and every other area of company responsibility.
Don earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from SFSU, and his skills have continued to grow over the decades. His background includes a long and successful history at the dealer distribution level of contract furnishings beginning in the late 70’s. His attention to detail, product knowledge, and keen sense of color schemes, textures and space-planning are a great resource for clients – particularly those on tight timelines and budgets. Don's customer focus and dedication have earned him the respect of countless clients, and he continues to work with some of these contacts decades later.
Don also ran his own enterprise, Choyce Environments, for a number of years. From residential design firms to commercial dealerships, from project management to accounting, from fabric and furniture selection, to window and wall treatments, Don's expertise brings a level of competence to almost any project undertaking.

Bryan Ward
Bryan Ward has deep roots in the Bay Area and is a graduate of San Jose State University. After a number of years focusing on Silicon Valley, Bryan recently moved to San Francisco and is covering firms from the peninsula to San Francisco. His experience includes key account sales and marketing to the A&D community at Teknion, Knoll, and Haworth dealers in Northern California, and as a Market Manager with a leading wood casegoods manufacturer. Bryan’s humor, passion and commitment to excellence make working with him a pleasure.
